My 1st Sample Project?
It’s going to be quite a busy day for me today.
I will have to run hours in the morning until end of day shift before 2pm. Then I would need to reached the Metis office by 3pm and prepare to make it back to Jurong before 5pm for night shift.
So, decided to wear my grey smiley long sleeve back to office in my usual cycling pants and crocs 😂
Today was a meeting with TAK Lumitak laminate supplier arranged by Andy. I’ve reached about 10mins early, but I only saw Andy alone with the supplier.
Then one by one, reply messages of being late or not coming pour into the group chat:

Can see disappointment and anger swelling up on Andy’s face. Luckily Damien, the other boss of the company came in as well, so 3 of us spent the next hour understanding the new products Lumitak has to offer this year.
After the supplier left, Kelvin, another designer just came in and we decided to hold our weekly meeting over some coffee at a nearby cafe.
During the meeting, it’s obvious that the 2 bosses are unhappy with the turn out today and we began talking about the bad working attitude of present and past younger designers they have employed over the past 3 years since they started the firm
The more we talked about it, the more I can see how I have the chance solidify my position in this firm. The firm is still very young and raw, so raw that there is still a lack of system, culture and hierarchy within the company.
Perhaps I may have the chance to contribute more to this company than just being a designer…

But before I head back to Jurong for my night shift, Andy requested something from me:
He wants to see a sample project from me starting from just a floor plan, and develop my design, drawings, mood board, quotation etc
In other words, he wants to see what are my capabilities before he feel comfortable handing leads/clients for me to handle
Yeah, it is reasonable for him to request that from me. I would ask for the same from any new designers who comes on board before I decide what is their capabilities and whether they are ready to meet any clients as they would be representing the company
The problem is: what should I use as my sample project to impress the bosses…?
This is the question I asked myself the whole night as I continue running my night shift orders…
